Best Swiss Restaurants in Zürich (2023 Edition)

Swiss cuisine is not all about Fondue and Raclette (even though I could live on Fondue) and there are many delicious Swiss restaurants you can visit around Zürich to deep dive into the Swiss culture and dishes.

In Zürich, one of the most famous dishes is the Zürcher Geschnetzeltes - a veal dish served with a creamy mushroom sauce and Rösti on the side (many restaurants make it but in the list you’ll find the ones I like the most). Other dishes you should try in Zürich are: Schnitzel (yes it’s originally from Milan but it’s also part of the Swiss tradition), Cordon Bleu (also not originally Swiss), different kinds of sausages and lake fish (especially Zander).

Most traditional Swiss dishes are quite meaty but you’ll definitely also always find vegetarian and vegan options in all restaurant options below.

Zunfthaus zur Waag

Zunfthaus zu Waag is one of my favourite Swiss restaurants especially in the summer when their beautiful terrace is open. It’s quite fancy but worth it as the food is delicious and the service is great.

Favourite Thing Here: The Schnitzel and the Kalbsgeschnetzeltes „Zürcher Art“ (Zurich style Veal)

$$$

Münsterhof 8, 8001 Zürich

Zeughauskeller

Zeughauskeller is the perfect Swiss restaurant if you are looking for a chill, low key place with great price/quality. The restaurant is quite big so it does get very crowded and loud but it’s also part of the fun. Nice terrace in the summer and very central - you can also usually find a table even without a reservation.

Favourite Thing Here: Kalbsgeschnetzeltes „Zürcher Art“ (Zurich style Veal) and the Rösti

$$

Bahnhofstrasse 28A, 8001 Zürich

Kronenhalle

Kronenhalle is the Swissest restaurant I can think of in Zürich. It’s definitely on the pricey side but worth it if you want to experience Swiss food in a fancy environment.

Favourite Thing Here: The Schnitzel and the Kalbsgeschnetzeltes „Zürcher Art“ (Zurich style Veal)

$$$$

Rämistrasse 4, 8001 Zürich

Veltlinerkeller

Veltrinerkeller opened in 1551 and it really doesn’t get much more Swiss than here. The location is perfect, right in the center of town and restaurant is cozy and cute.

Favourite Thing Here: They make great mushroom dishes and the soups are always delicious

Schlüsselgasse 8, 8001 Zürich

La Rôtisserie

La Rôtisserie is one of the prettiest restaurants in Zürich, right by the river inside the Hotel Storchen this restaurant not only serves amazing food but has incredible atmosphere.

Favourite Thing Here: Kalbsgeschnetzeltes „Zürcher Art“ (Zurich style Veal)

Weinpl. 2, 8001 Zürich

Haus zum Rüden

Haus zum Rüden looks extremely touristy from the outside but is a true surprise when it comes to the food which is absolutely delicious and on point Swiss. Even though they have a terrace I think the indoor is nicer as the street is quite crowded.

Favourite Thing Here: Rindsfilet Rossini

Limmatquai 42, 8001 Zürich

Degenried

Degenried is a super cute restaurant in the middle of the forest. It’s great for lunch or dinners but in the summer I really enjoy it for lunch as the terrace is incredible. The service is nice and the food is amazing.

Favourite Thing Here: Cordon Bleu and the Schnitzel

Degenriedstrasse 135, 8032 Zürich

Rechberg 1837

Rechberg 1837 offers Swiss cuisine with a modern taste - it has a super cute terrace, the service is friendly and the dishes are incredible. They have a lot of vegetarian options.

Favourite Thing Here: The menu changes quite a bit so it’s always a surprise

Chorgasse 20, 8001 Zürich

Alpenrose

Alpenrose is a quaint underrated little restaurant, possibly because it’s a little off the beaten track but the food and service won’t disappoint! The food is traditional Swiss and the decor is stylish.

Favourite Thing Here: Their specialty dish Rösli’s Hackbraten mit sämiger Steinpilzrahmsauce (Meatloaf with Mushroom Sauce)

$$

Fabrikstrasse 12, 8005 Zürich

Rigiblick

Rigiblick Restaurant not only offers spectacular views, the food is also absolutely incredible! It’s a bit “out of town” but definitely worth it especially on a beautiful summer evening.

Germaniastrasse 99, 8044 Zürich

Zunfthaus Zur Saffran

Zunfthause Zur Saffran is not a normal restaurant as it’s not usually open to public. It’s a great place to organise company dinners or special events. The food is divine and the location is absolutely stunning.
